In-between my college productions, I often volunteered as a technician or a cue operator for a theatre company in the same city as my university. Most of the time, I was assigned to operate sound cues for their productions, but I occasionally helped out by being a soundboard operator, spotlight operator, and sound cue editor.
For most of the Little Theatre shows I volunteered on, my job was to operate the sound cues on QLab. Occasionally, the cues needed some fixing, and I was able to apply my sound knowledge to make edits to the audio, such as volume adjustments, loops, or smoother transitions.
For my third time working on the theatre's annual presentation of A Christmas Carol, I was assigned to operate the sound board using MIDI controls in QLab. I was in charge of unmuting actors' microphone per scene, but I also had to adjust the volume with the faders in case some of the actors' voices needed to be more audible for the audience.
While working on Something Rotten, I worked on manually operating one of the two spotlights on the side of the theatre's booth. I had some prior experience from a theatre camp I worked at several summers ago, so I felt comfortable with making sure the right actor was in the spotlight during the dance sequences.
